前回のバイトシリーズが「面白かった」という意見があったので、今日も続きを書きます！  「小売・広告編」です。
Some people told me that the last post was quite interesting, so I will continue! Today I will post about “retail/promo experience”

クリスチャンになってから、自分の人生で起きること、良いことも悪いことも含めて全部意味があることなんだって思えるようになった。　
Now as a Christian, I believe that every good things and bad things happen for a reason. 

だから、自分がたどってきた道を振り返って「神様ありがとう♪」と思えることも大事だよね。　そして今いる場所で見えないことがあっても、全ては神様のプランだから大丈夫だって確信を持つことが大事だよね☆
So it’s sometimes important to look back the track that you’ve been walking and thank God for everything He has done for you. And even we don’t exactly know where we are at right now, we can be confident that everything is going to be okay because it is in God’s hands!

＜小売・広告編 Retail/Promotion Industry＞

①　デパートでクレジットカードの勧誘業
Promoting Credit Card to customers at a department store

時期/When：２１歳　When I was 21.
期間/Length：1ヶ月 1 months
時給/hourly pay：９００円 about $１０

仕事の内容/job description:
-デパートでお客さんを呼びかけ、カードに入会してもらう。
-エスカレーター付近にカウンターを自分で設置し、買い物中のお客さんによびかける。
-その場で用紙に記入してもらう。

-Asking customers to join the new credit card in the department store.
-Setting the counter and call out to the customers who are shopping.
-Ask them to fill in the forms.

バイトの理由/Reason why I worked there：
夏休みで日本にきている期間、滞在していたおばあちゃんの地元で働きたかった。
I wanted to work near my grandmother’s place, where I stayed during my summer break.

よかったところ/Highlights：
☆おばあちゃんの家から通えたから便利。
☆短期で受け付けてくれた。
☆こっちから呼びかけないと誰もきてくれないので、恥ずかしいという段階を超えることができた。
-It was close to my grandmother’s house, so it was convenient.
-They accepted short-term work.
-No one came unless I spoke out loud, so I was able to overcome my shyness.

大変だったところ/Challenges：
★とにかく、暇なデパートだった。クリスマス直前というのに、びっくりするぐらい人がこなかった。
★ずっと立っていないといけなかったので、ぼーっとする時間の方が長かった。
★そもそも勧誘が苦手だったので、チャレンジだった。大声出さないといけないし。
-They had hardly any customers in that department store!!! It was even just before Christmas.
-I had to stand the whole day so I day dreamed most of the time.
-I wasn’t good at soliciting, so it was challenging! I had to speak louder too.

＜面白エピソード/Interesting story＞

☆人によって配置されるフロアが違った。　おしゃべりが得意で、ぽっちゃりとした「自称おばちゃんキラー」の男性はいつもＢ１の食品売り場に配置され、加入者が一番多かった。

☆風邪で喉がやられてしまった時に、声が出なくて、看板をもったまま笑顔でエスカレーターの横に立っていた。　おばちゃんの軍団が近づいてきたので声をかけたら、おばちゃんから「きゃっ、しゃべった！！！」と叫ばれた。どうやら、動いていなかったから私のことをマネキンだと思っていたらしい・・・。
-People were located on different floors according to their personalities. For example, a chubby man who was good at talking, and called himself “Popular with the middle aged ladies”, was located on the B1 GROCERIES FLOOR. He had the most subscribers.

-One time I lost my voice because of the flu, so I decided to just hold the board and smile near the escalator. When I saw group of middle-aged women approaching me, I said hi to them… and one of the ladies screamed, “AAAAHHH She’s speaking!!” She thought I was a mannequin because I wasn’t moving much….

② 日本の電気店で某メーカーの新作デジカメのキャンペーンガール
Promo staff-promoting the latest digital camera at the electric store in Japan

時期/When：２１歳　When I was 21.
期間/Length：1日 1 day
時給/pay per day：１００００円 about $１１０

仕事の内容/job description:
そのメーカー指定の衣装に着替えて、お客さんに新しいデジカメの特徴を説明し、すすめる。
Wear the uniform, explain to the customers about the functions of the new digital camera and encourage them to buy it.

バイトの理由/Reason why I worked there：
一日だけ仕事だったから。　楽そうだった。
It was only a one-day job. It sounded easy.

よかったところ/Highlights：
☆一日だけの仕事だったので、あまり深い知識は求められてなくて、研修なしでできた。
☆体にも精神的にも負担がかからなかった。
- Since it was a one-day job, I wasn’t expected to know about the product that much, and I wasn’t trained.
-It wasn’t a draining job.

大変だったところ/Challenges：
★たちっぱなしだったところ。　私一人だったから、暇なときも話し相手がいなかった。
-I had to stand the whole day. I had no one to talk to when I was bored.

＜エピソード/Interesting story＞
☆　メーカーの代表としてきていたおじさんが、自社の商品なのにもかかわらず、扱い方を全く知らなかった・・・。　全部私まかせにして、自分はよくサボっていた。
One of the employees of that company didn’t know how to use the digital camera. (It was the product of his company!! He made me do everything and skipped out on his job.

③　オーストラリアの某化粧品会社のデパート販売員
Sales person of Australian Cosmetic brand at a department store.

時期/When：２1歳　When I was 21.
期間/Length：3ヶ月 3 months
時給/hourly pay：約１５００円 $１６

仕事の内容/job description:
☆デパートでお化粧品を売る
☆他のコーナーが忙しそうだったら手伝う。（香水コーナーとか）
-Selling Cosmetics at a Department Store
-Help other sections if they seem to be busy. (E.g. Fragrance section)

バイトの理由/Reason why I worked there：
☆日本での生活を始める前に時間があったから。
☆一度コスメ業界でバイトしてみたかった。
-I had time before I started my life in Japan.
-I wanted to work in cosmetic industry for once.

よかったところ/Highlights：
☆2日間のホテルでの研修がかなり良かった。　お化粧品の成分、フェイシャルの仕方、コスメの基本知識、接客の基本について学べた。
☆大好きな自然派コスメブランドで、試供品をもらえて嬉しかった。
☆暇な時間にハンドクリームをつけていたら、手がすべすべになった（笑）
☆クリスマス時期だったので、色々な人がきていて人間ウォッチングが楽しかった。
-The 2 days training at the Hotel was really good! I learned about the ingredients of cosmetic products, how to do facials, basics about cosmetics and customer service.
-It was my favorite natural cosmetic brand and I was happy that they gave me free samples all the time!
-I put on the hand cream when I was bored, so my hands became really smooth!
-Since it was Christmas season, so many people came and it was just fun watching them.

大変だったところ/Challenges：
★人員不足のため、一人で接客していた。
★暇な時間帯が長かった。　
I was the only salesperson because of shortage of staff.
I had to fill in the time as I didn’t have many customers.

＜面白エピソード/Interesting story＞
☆クリスマス時期だったので、パートナーのためにプレゼントを選んでいる人達をみているのが楽しかった。ほほえましかったのは、長年連れ添ったおばあちゃんに口紅を選んでいたおじいちゃんや息子と一緒に妻の香水を選びにきた男性。こういう夫を持ちたいな～と思った。

逆にクリスマス当日の朝に、自分で決めないで店員まかせで、セール商品を買っていった男性をみたときは、「こういう夫は嫌だな～」なんてしみじみ思った。

It was really fun to see people shopping for Christmas gifts. I felt really warm when I saw an old-aged man buying lipstick for his wife. And father and son looking for a perfume for the mum. Whenever I saw those kind of people, I thought, “I want to marry a good husband like them.”

On the other hand, when I saw men who bought gifts on SALE on the actual Christmas day with out thinking (just asking the sales assistant), I thought, “I don’t want to marry these kind of men”.(LOL)

☆バイトをしていた期間にクリスチャンになったので、仕事中、何をしていても誰を接客していても幸せでいっぱいだった！
I became a Christian while I was working here, so I was so happy every time when I was working and serving customers!

MY CASUAL JOB EXPERIENCE- PART1

今日から「いずみのアルバイト体験シリーズ」を始めます！！
From today, I’m going to post about “Izumi’s casual job experience”

私の知られざる過去・・・（笑）My unknown past…(LOL)

アルバイト体験の話をすると、よく驚かれます・・・！というのも、社会人になるまで、「色々な経験してみたい！」ということでオーストラリアと日本で短期のバイトを色々していたの♪
Some people find it surprising when they hear about my casual job experience. I’ve worked both in Australia and Japan just because I wanted experience.

色々なアルバイトを体験することはかなりオススメ！　何が自分に向いているのとか、その仕事の現実を知ることもできるし・・・無駄な経験はないよね！
It’s good to work as a casual worker in various industries…!  You’ll get to know what will suit you and the realities of the job. It’s going to be a great experience!

結構色々な種類があるので、　「飲食編」「メディア業界編」「小売・広告編」「勉強編」に分けようと思う（＾＾）
I’m going to categorize my job experience into “hospitality industry”, “Media Industry”, “retail/promotion industry” and “study”.

では、第一回目は「飲食編」と「勉強編」からいきます～！
For this first part I will start with “Hospitality industry” and “Study”.

＜飲食編 HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY＞

①　ビジネス街の日本食テイクアウト店での売り子
Selling Japanese food at a Japanese takeaway shop in the business district.

時期/When：１８歳（高校２年生の時）When I was 18. (Yr8)
期間/Length：２ヶ月 2 months
時給/hourly pay：１０００円ぐらい about $9

仕事の内容/job description:
太巻きを作ること。テイクアウトのお寿司や日本食をお客さんに売ること。
Making Sushi Rolls. Selling Sushi and Japanese take-away food to the customers.

バイトの理由/Reason why I worked there：
夏休み中、日本人の友達と一緒に働きたかった。
I wanted to work with my Japanese friend during Summer holiday.

よかったところ/Highlights：
☆太巻きが作れるようになった！！！
☆あまったお寿司や料理を持って帰ることができて親に喜ばれた（笑）
☆ビジネス街だったので、お客さんが品の良い感じの人たちばかりだった。
-I learned how to make Sushi rolls!
-My parents were happy because I was allowed to take home some leftovers…(LOL)
-Because it was located in the business district, we had decent customers.

大変だったところ/Challenges：
店長（女性）に気に入られてしまい、私だけ皆と違う休憩時間にされました・・・。私だけ店長と常にランチだった＾＾；
The Shop owner (female) liked me, so she made me have different lunch break with others. I had to have lunch with her everyday. (only the 2 of us!)

②　日本の某老舗パスタ店でのホール  Worked as a waitress at a Japanese well-established pasta restaurant

時期/When：２０歳  When I was 20
期間/Length：１.５ヶ月 1.5 months
時給/Hourly pay：９５０円ぐらい approximately $10
仕事の内容/job description：
主に接客。Mainly serving the customers.

バイトの理由/Reason why I worked there：
大学が始まる前に、日本でバイトがしたかった。ホールを一度してみたかったし、パスタが好きだから（笑）
I wanted to work in Japan before I started Uni. I wanted to work as a waitress and I loved pasta (LOL)

よかったところ/Highlights：
☆まかない！！！　メニューの中からスパゲッティをリクエストできた！７０種類以上の組み合わせの具があったので、毎日あきることがなかった。（アサリ納豆スパが超美味しかった＾＾）
☆料理も美味しくて、雰囲気もよかったので楽しかった！
☆動きが機敏になった！
-Free lunch was provided! I was able to choose anything from the menu. They had more than 70 kinds of pasta so I never got sick of it. (I especially loved the Natto-clam spaghetti!)
-The food was absolutely delicious and I liked the work environment.
-I learned how to move quickly.

大変だったところ/Challenges：
昼が３時まで食べられなかったことかな。
I couldn’t eat my lunch until 3pm

＜勉強編/STUDY＞

① 日本語の先生/Japanese teacher

時期/When：１９～２１歳 When I was 19-21
期間/Length：２年 2 years
時給/hourly pay：９００円ぐらい $10
仕事の内容/job description：
生徒がきたら、プリントを渡して記入してもらう。
それを採点し、宿題を渡すだけのとても簡単内容。
Hand out worksheets to the students and let them fill that in.
Mark the paper and give them homework. It was soooo easy!

バイトの理由/Reason why I worked there：
大学で勉強が忙しかったので、週に数時間の楽なバイトを探していた。
I was busy with my Uni work so I was looking for a easy job, which I could work only few hours a week.

よかったところ/Highlights：
生徒がくるまでは何をしていてもよかった。勉強ができた。
I was allowed to do anything until the students came. I was able to study.

大変だったところ/Challenges：
家から遠かったところかな？　でも、一時間ちょっとだけど・・・。
It was quite far from my house… but only 1hour and few minutes…

② 家庭教師/Tutoring

時期/When?:　２１歳 When I was 21
期間/Length：１年 1 year
時給/hourly pay：１９００円ぐらい About $20

仕事の内容/job description：
a) 小学校の日本人の子に英語を教える仕事。うちにきてもらって、教えていた。
Teaching English conversation to the Japanese primary school girl. I taught her at my place.
b) 大学で、大学生に日本語を教えた。
I taught Japanese to Uni student at Uni.

バイトの理由/Reason：
お小遣い稼ぎ♪ To earn money!

よかったところ/Highlights：
時給が結構良いし、自由に教えられた。
Good pay and I was free to teach them anything.

大変だったところ/Challenges ：
自分で１時間分のレッスンを組むこと。また、日本人なので、どうしても日本語で話しかけられる。
I had to make the lesson plans. Also because I’m Japanese, she spoke to me in Japanese most of the time.

大学生に関しては、デートに誘われた時点で教えることを断りました＾＾；；；それ以来、大人の異性に教えることはやめました・・・。
For the University student, I stopped teaching him since he asked me out. From then on, I stopped teaching grown-up males…

これからどんどん面白いバイトが出てくるのでお楽しみに♪
